Level 2 Award in Healthier Food and Special Diets

1 Day Course. Dates available 21st March 2012

Course Description:

This qualification is aimed at those involved in catering, food and health-related occupations, and also to carers, community workers, fitness trainers and other individuals that have a role in the promotion of health. It would also be appropriate as part of lifestyle education for people of all ages, and especially for young people. Holders of this qualification will have a good understanding of the basic principles of nutrition which underpin the production of healthy food and preparation of special diets, and the key role of nutrition in health. Special diets include coeliac, diabetic, supplemented, vegetarian, dementia. This short course is delivered over one day, and assessed by a 30 minute examination, consisting of twenty multiple choice questions.  

Level 3 Award Healthier Food and Special Diets

Course description:

This is a Level 3 qualification. It is suitable for people working in hospital, school, university and care catering particularly and also others who are in a position to promote healthy nutrition. It is relevant for employees of health related companies, and for people working in the health, caring or teaching professions that might have a role in the promotion of healthy eating or the preparation of meals, menus and diets. Special diets include coeliac, diabetic, supplemented, vegetarian, dementia.
The qualification's learning outcomes include the importance of balanced diets, the nutrient composition of food, nutritional needs of individuals and the preparation, presentation and promotion of healthy meals and diets.

Description

The Diploma course is particularly designed for senior personnel. This builds on the level 3 award in nutrition which may be the RSPH Certificate course in Nutrition or Level 3 in Nutrition in Healthier Food and Special Diets. This course provides detailed information on nutritional requirements for all members of the community, dietary reference values, diet and disease, allergies, intolerance, menu planning and practical ways of encouraging healthy eating. This course is delivered over four and a half days. The examination is held four weeks later after the completion of  2 assignments. This qualification is widely acknowledged in the NHS and care industry and is often a pre requisite for trainers in nutrition.
